The aim of students being asked to write college admission essays by the college admission officers is because they want to know the student better. They want to know whether in addition to the academic papers, the student is well organized, and focused. Through essay writing, the admission offers can determine your personality, character, what excites you, and what drives you.

    Be original

Many of the theses utilize the same old themes. The best essays are those that instead of the writers showing themselves as victim, they focus on overcoming the situation. The writer is not expected to provide solutions to hunger or on world peace. If the essay that you write sounds boring to you, it is also likely to bore the readers. As you write and as you revise, do not stop to ask yourself whether it is interesting.

    Create some mystery

Just as with writing research papers, the introduction should be one that surprises the reader. This will make them to want to read further. You also need to remain focused in that you don’t have to write all that you have achieved in life. You only need to describe one or two events or items, in full. It is in the details that you express your magic.

    Use active verbs

As I write my essay, I have learnt that an essay gains more life by use of action verbs, instead of passive voice. Passive voice makes the essay to sound detached and cold. In addition to the active verbs, use simple words and short sentences. When you use a language that is complicated, the admission officers will assume that you are less intelligent. Therefore, use a language that is more concise and simpler. Ensure that the readers understand the paper therefore; they will not be impressed by use of obscure terms.

With admission essays, the numbers of words that can be used are limited. The advantage with the essay being short is that you will not have to write so much. Its only when your essay is unique that your essay will be effective. A powerful essay elicits emotional response from readers.
